ATHENA DEMWE POWER LIMITED
Demwe HEP is part of Arunachal Pradesh’s Lohit river cascade development scheme. Lohit is one of the major tributaries of the mighty Brahmaputra that flows through India’s verdant North-East region. The Run-of-the-River Demwe Hydro Electric Power Project is being developed in two stages with a generation capacity of 1,750 MW (Demwe Lower) and about 1,500 MW (Demwe Upper) respectively.
The 1,750 MW project (using 5 turbines of 342 MW each and an additional turbine of 40 MW; peak power generation of 6,322 GWh of electricity in a 90% dependable year at 95% plant availability to the National Grid) is being developed and implemented by Athena Demwe Power Limited, a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) for implementation of the project. Athena Demwe Power was formed by Athena Energy Ventures Pvt Ltd (AEVPL) pursuant to a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) signed by AEVPL with Govt of Arunachal Pradesh in July 2007. On the 29 th of March, 2010 Athena Demwe Power was converted into a Public Limited Company.
The project will significantly enhance the quality of life of local people by way of development of infrastructure like roads and communications, availability of power for development of small / medium industries, employment generation and secondary benefits like boost to tourism etc.

- Topographical survey, Property survey and Construction Material Survey have been completed.
- Geological Mapping, Geophysical investigation and Sub Surface Investigations including Drilling & Drifting completed.
- Socio-economic Study, all season base line data collection and study completed.
- “In Principle” Mega Power Project Status obtained from Ministry of Power.
- Defence clearance obtained from Ministry of Defence.
- Detailed Project Report (DPR) has been concurred by the CEA.
- Environmental Clearance has been accorded by Ministry of Environment & Forests.
- The project has been taken up to be developed as CDM project and for registration at CDM Executive Board of UNFCCC. The Project Design Document (PDD) is under development.
- Forest Clearance Proposal has been recommended by the Forest Advisory Committee of MoEF.Pursuant to due process Clearance is expected shortly.
- Land acquisition process is expected to be completed shortly.

- Financial Closure has been achived with long termdebt of ~ Rs 10,000 cr fied up from leading indian FIs and banks.
